It’s no secret that the job market hasn’t been great over the past months.
Many people who reach out to me: MBA applicants, current students nearing graduation, or those considering an MBA, share their concerns about the uncertainty and challenges.
I get it. I’ve been there.
When I was looking for a strategy consulting role in the Middle East post-MBA, I didn’t have an easy, straightforward path.
My school and career center definitely provided a platform and connections, but beyond that, it was about putting in a lot of effort myself.
To build relevant experience, I took on an internship in Germany. Though it wasn’t a consulting internship (those were extremely competitive), it gave me exposure to Strategy & Operations at a hyper-growth company.
More importantly, it provided international exposure - working in a new market and collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds.
From there, I leveraged that experience and started applying to consulting firms for full-time roles.
At some point, even friends and family suggested I explore other regions. Consulting in the Middle East was getting too competitive, especially for international candidates. But I kept going.
I networked extensively - reaching out to alumni, connecting with consultants on LinkedIn, and having countless conversations. I prepared rigorously for case interviews, and kept pushing forward despite many rejections along the way.
The process was tough, but every step brought me closer to my goal.
Eventually, I landed a strategy consulting role at a Big-4 firm in the UAE. It was a moment of validation, but more than that, it reinforced a key lesson: persistence and action matter more than circumstances.
For anyone facing setbacks right now - keep going. Network, upskill, ask for help, and don’t let the challenges define your path.
The road may be tough, but those who stay at it often find the best opportunities in uncertain times.
