Re: ALL THE GMAT MASTER-Kindy advice for last month preparation [#permalink]

Hi, what I sense is that you need improvement in verbal area. Your quant score is good (IMO). You have two options
A. You go for detailed preparation of both Q & V areas or
B. You devise a 70/30 ratio of your preparation time for V/Q respectively.

If I were you (with what I learned from my first gmat experience), I would have chosen option B.

Reason: If you maintain your current Q score & improve your verbal score to 40 then you will cross 720 and that would be great. But if you get Q 51 and your V score doesn't cross 35, then though you would cross or reach 700 but a low verbal score would hurt you during applications. There is also a possibility that you go for option A and acheive what you want (Q50, V40), but normally thats a difficult scenario as to improve verbal score significantly in one month is a bit challanging.

Also, try to attempt as many CATs as you can, provided you comply the official test conditions (with locked room & cell phone off). For AWA, atleast try to write 10-12 AWA essays and dont skip AWA section while attempting CATs.

Best of luck & keep us posted. :)

i have also taken a months leave from work starting tmrw.let see how the final lap of prepration goes.i will be posting what ever i will be doing.hopefully advice will follow

AS I HAD SAID I WILL COMBINE THE STUDY PLAN IN ONE POST

STRUCTURE OF POST WILL BE
-PLANNED/DONE WITH STUDY MATERIAL USED
- ERRORS AND REVISION DONE FROM

ANY ONE WHO LIKES TO FOLLOW THIS PLAN YOU SHOULD HAVE COMPLETE 28 DAYS FOR YOURSELF.

STUDY PLAN - DAY 01

a) QUANT- 37+37 questions from kaplan quiz, error revision from club post- fractions, remainder,
revised 06 question each from the three topics and some concepts from gmat club .

b) SC - Revised mgmat sc guide ch1 & ch2 and did 20 quiz question from kaplan.
Got 03 wrong.
the issues are - silly subject-verb agreement, idiom- " they believe to be ", verb requiring infitive.
i did revision from forum only.forums on the club are mind boggling.i had done 06 questions of each for the errors i made on practice. questions and their explanations have forced my mind to see questions from different view point

c) CR- mgmat cr ch1,2,3 + 20 practice question from kaplan quiz.

i didn't find much of difficulty. i got 02 question wrong out of 20.
and i got question wrong because i got confused in one issue
--
Quote:
it was weakening question
say because of A & B , dog lab is popular....

i ticked answer as because of X & Y also, dog lab is popular

whereas correct answer was dog golden also has A & B , but it is not popular

d) RC- finished with RC for the day. today i did 04 para and 20 question.

I got only 02 wrong, but had taken long time to complete the passages. i hope time will improve with practice.

e)MISC- revision of idioms (50) downloaded from club(attached to this post) and some chapters from club grammar book

f) last but not the least started with AWA essay, first time did a practice or made a skelton for analysis of argument. i had used notes from chineseburned. great notes indeed.

that was all for the first day.....GOOD LUCK.

Have you used the tag list option available in the forum. Just use that option. Thats great!! e.g. You can find all the remainder problems with the tag "remainders". Just use that option & let us know in case of any issue.

hi all,

day 2

a) QUANT -- quiz from mgmat guide number properties (25 que)
i got exactly 02 wrong.-- cons integer and exponent & roots
lesson learnt-

Quote:
For any two positive consecutive multiples of an integer n, n is the greatest common factor of those multiples,

second round of 25 question from quiz of mgmat quant word translation.
got 03 wrong but what a wonderful quiz it was. i took more than average time in all question.

lesson learnt-

Quote:
When two sets are combined to form a composite set, the mean of the composite set must either be between the means of the individual sets or be equal to the mean of both of the individual sets.

when two sets are combined to form a composite set, the median of the composite set must either be between the medians of the individual sets or be equal to the median of one or both of the individual sets.

b) SC- revised mgmat sc guide ch 3 and did 20 question from kaplan quiz
i need to revise idioms more because i got 04 wrong (all usage mistake)

c) CR - revised ch-4 from mgmat cr guide and completed 20 practice question from kaplan quiz bank.

it was too tiring for the day especially with mgmat 50 questions. lets put a break here and rest.......

will do revision next day....

DAY 3

i pray to god ......please help me to make my day resourceful, to make me learn something new,and to overcome my fears.

a) QUANT- started quite early today.i was finshed with kaplan question bank, so i thought to buy club q bank.
did quant club test 2-- RESULT-
"you answered correctly 31 out of 37 questions; your percentile on test m02 is 72.5% (you did better than 72.5% of m02 test takers)."
not that good, let see what went wrong.. see you all after revision.
a perfect example of not reading the question properly

Quote:
" If \(n\) is an integer, is \(n^3/16\) a positive integer?

1. \(n/4\) is an integer
2. \(n^2/16\) is a positive integer

i answered D because i missed positive

REMEMBER TO READ QUESTION CAREFULLY AND WRITE WHAT HAS IT ASKED

b) RC - started with rc in verbal prep. skimmed through mgmat rc chapters. then after a break did 02 long & 02 short question from kaplan quiz. got correct 14 out of 22 question. i think i need a lot of practice.

c) SC-- started with revising mgmat sc guide ch-4 . completed 20 question from kaplan quiz.
Quote:
to my surprise i just got 01 wrong. this is not me!!!!!!!!! :!: :!: :!: . i think reason is something else.... hmmmmm...yes...i think i am attempting similar kind of question. i need to change my question bank to slightly tougher one. it is well said that till the you dont make mistake , you dont learn. so i should make mistake in SC during practice then only i will learn something more.

can somebody provide me with some link..... ok i will find myself on club .

d) CR -- refreshed and revised the chapter -5 from mgmat cr.
now i changed my question bank. i downloaded from whiplash's post, a collection of gmat prep cr question.i attempted 1-20 of them . score was 12 correct out of 20. it was good for a change that i got so many wrong ones, it made me realized many mistakes which i was making.

lesson learnt- read question/argument carefully for details.

the collection link https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-prep-critical-reasoning-collection-106783.html#p840353
collection is also attached below

d) MISC- revised 50 idioms and did 01 essay.

i found it somewhere in club ( mastersheet of gmat).the quote is quite motivating, i hope you all will agree..

Quote:
"If you want a thing bad enough to go out and fight for it,
to work day and night for it,
to give up your time, your peace and your sleep for it…

if all that you dream and scheme is about it,
and life seems useless and worthless without it…

if you gladly sweat for it and fret for it and plan for it
and lose all your terror of the opposition for it…

if you simply go after that thing you want
with all of your capacity, strength and sagacity,
faith, hope and confidence and stern pertinacity…

if neither cold, poverty, famine, nor gout,
sickness nor pain, of body and brain,
can keep you away from the thing that you want…

if dogged and grim you beseech and beset it,
with the help of God, you will get it!”

---Les Brown"

Hi All
I had an overwhelming experience over here. Before hitting this place .I could not feel that confidence in me, but now to some extent I am very much confident about myself. My tutor helped me a lot with my queries and he has been a great help in building up my confidence. It was perfect experience, I will tell all my friends that if they want to go for any entrance like GMAT, CET, NMAT etc.. to join only Climb First only if they really care for their future.

DAY -04

i plan to take a test in the noon session.
till then lets do something.

a) QUANT- took club test m-03 today. SCORE 29/37. pretty bad. some silly mistake again. got stuck in 01 question conceptually. weighted percentage problem.
one more important advice- " keep flagging the problems you need to revise in club test and be sure to revise all of them once in a week."
Quote:
advise needed-
what should i do to over come small mistake like- calculation, forgetting that zero is even, etc. ....

b) RC- i did 04 paragraph from kaplan quiz bank - got 18/23 correct. i generally donot get so many correct in rc, it is just because i had done same para during my last attempt. so i need to change the rc q bank also.
Quote:
any suggestions on rc q bank

c) TEST MGMAT -01- what the hell... i was found wanting of time in both sections 08-09 question each....
scored 580- q 43 v 28 lowest in my life... just because i not good enough..                      :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
time management has gone for 6 !

DAY 5

principle of war says that one must learn from own mistake and other mistake also. so today i revised verbal portion of mgmat test-01 . it was pure time mis managment..

a) QUANT- started with gmat club test -04 scored 32/37. 02 question wrong just because of properties of zero " it is even but niether positive or negative.

there after started with the revision of quant portion of mgmat 01 test... all questions of 700-800 till i was short of time ( 10 question).. most of the questions were detailed, long, wordy kind of problems...

b) CR- revised mgmat cr guide ch 6 and practice problem 21 to 40 from gmat prep collection. 17/20 correct . its coming fine in practice but i need to increase my speed in real tests.

Quant, I recommend MGMAT 5 book quant series. Start to finish coverage of all GMAT fundamentals in that series.

For verbal, I say you have the right materials. Try focusing on just reading more. Not study material! I am talking about novels, magazines, newspapers...

DAY- 6
day 6 has started with a bang.

a) QUANT- completed club test -5 , scored 29/37...., still not improving. revised all question that went wrong and analyzed why. one more thing i am doing is that i am revising those question which have taken more than 2.5 minutes .lets see how it helps

b) RC- i have downloaded a collection of rc passage 117 from club.so for the practice i did 04 of them timed .
the results were- 2 essay- 4/9, 3 essay- 8/8, 4 essay- 4/7 , 5 essay- 7/9.
most of the wrong answers were inference to be extracted from detail in passage. global questions are coming good. i have attached the copy of passage again. i thank to the original complier of these passage.

When you are reading through an rc problem, what approach are you taking? Are you taking notes? Are you reading the passave a few times before you start answering questions? Looking at questions first? T
