Hi,
I have been preparing for GMAT for 6-7 weeks. First 3 weeks I focused on getting Grammar basics and SC practise under way. Reached 75-80% accuracy in 25 set on SC1000. Then I moved to Math for next 3 weeks and in Kaplan diagnosis I got 49. I am overall feeling better with Math now with most of my weak areas with at-least some practice.
Now here is where I am:
1) I am begging my RC/CR (Starting with OG)
2) I am yet to give complete test ( Planning one tomorrow)
3) I have 4 weeks from today three of which I will take off from work
So in nutshell I have two questions:
1) Any suggestions on how to ace CR and RC, I want to do some LSAT problems for CR and use LSAT book but I dont have enough time, any shotcuts..?
2) I am starting to give tests from this week and plan to give about 5-6 with prep in between. How useful test giving has been for people?
You've developed your reading comprehension skills over your entire lifetime. Unfortunately, there is little you can do in 4 weeks to make much of a difference. Start reading the WSJ, pick up an academic journal in the social sciences, and start reading dry technical articles from science websites. Just practice on focus and staying 'awake' thats probably all you can do.
My other advice to you is to not follow any of the advice in any of the test prep books; they tell you to skim the material etc... you must carefully read each passage. I generally have time to spare on the verbal section so I actually try to read each passage twice in a row... my hit rate with RX i
Improving CR will help you in RC, since some RC questons are really CR questions (i.e. they want you to describe the structure or make an inference)
my other advice would be that your study plan doesn't seem well thought out. perhaps it works for you,but i wouldnt break up studying by topic for weeks at a time. Work on verbal and math all the time. maybe math on day verbal the next.... but not weeks in between. you need to keep everything fresh
