Hello,

I am an Indian Male Applicant who is planning to apply for the 2025 intake for a full time MBA. Can you please review my profile and let me know if I have a chance at these schools and on what metrics should I improve?

1. GMAT Classic Score - 740; V41 Q49; 7 IR; 6 AWA (Should I give another chance to increase over 97 percentile)
2. Undergrad - 4 years (Engineering) from a Mid-level NIT (National Institute of Technology) - These are prestigious colleges in India. Link for more reference here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_ ... ogy_(India)
3. College Academics - 8.9/10 (4/4 GPA) - Among the top 10 percentile in class or among the Top 5 students
3.5. Work Experience (3 years) - 1.5 as an associate at a top Healthcare consulting firm and 1.5 years at a top MBB as a Data Scientist
4. Extracurriculars - Led Entrepreneurship club and activities in College (Led One of the biggest Startup Expos in the college and possibly the district); Head of the Media Cell in college; Founding member, Head & Cheif Editor at the college Newsletter
5. Non-Government Organizations (Serving the society) - Was an active member of an NGO to impart education to underprivileged students
6. Conceptualized a Startup Project and received the best mock startup out of 100+ teams; Led a team to the top 50 rankings in a Case Study Competition (Will these be helpful)
7. >90% grade in School

8. Target Colleges - HBS, LBS, Kellogg, Booth, Columbia (Basically all M7 ) and Roos, Fuqua, Yale, Darden, Anderson (from T15) and Georgetown

Kartikeya40 - You have a decent profile that can work in your favor. However, we must dig deeper into your profile and understand how we can relate all the activities you have engaged in so far with your applications.

Your GMAT score and your overall CGPA are quite positive which can help you get an admit into your target schools. In addition, your undergraduate institution will hold a strong value in your applications.

Your ECs and community experience will emphasize your efforts to build an all-around profile. Last but not least, your 3 years of work experience need to be highlighted to Adcoms specifying your learnings and the impact that you have and are creating.

However, before you start with your applications, we recommend you brainstorm your profile with our MBA consultants who have helped multiple applicants submit successful applications to leading business schools.

Kartikeya40 - Some thoughts on your profile:

1. Your undergrad pedigree, GPA and GMAT are good. A 10-20 point improvement in score can strengthen chances particularly for M7's. Latest GMAT averages are here FYI, aiming for 10-20 points higher than average is ideal as an Indian Male applicant

2. Your professional experience is interesting, given the MBB brand and healthcare angle. Assuming your MBB role was earlier, was the transition aimed at specializing in healthcare? What are your plans post-MBA in terms of target sector/ functions?

3. ECs sound fine, but these sound a bit old i.e. in college (correct me if I'm wrong). Any more recent ones?

4. Having a strong narrative i.e. outlining your experiences/ skills gained, plans post MBA and how/ why an MBA would fit in are crucial. This can also help prioritize/ shortlist programs

Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to reach out through the link(s) below for a deeper chat.

Kartikeya40

I hope you are well. I worked with someone last year who had a similar profile (DU top undergrad, data analytics and ZS) and made it to Booth and other top 10 schools (think Duke, Tuck, Ross, etc.). I would highly recommend improving your GMAT score by 10-20 points.

I would hope that by the time you apply, you have already worked at your current healthcare consulting firm for two years. That would help you show a continuous gradual career progression with your current employer. It is also best to tell a well thought out narrative regarding your professional choices, linking it to the industry you have chosen and the motivation for your MBA and plans afterward. Healthcare, for example, would need to be a strong focus and a common thread throughout your application, especially for the M7s or schools with a healthcare focus such as Duke and Tuck. I do not think it will be a challenge for you to get into the T15-20. Make sure you have a good mix of good and safe schools but do not pick more than 6-7 overall so you can really focus on researching the T10 MBA programs to strengthen your application. Also applying early is key.

Feel free to reach out for a deeper discussion.

Best wishes

Hello Kartikeya40,

While you have a number of talking points in your profile, you must look at improving your GMAT score and then applying.

Needless to say, your goals will also need to be in sync with your profile.

All the best!

I'm not sure it's super critical to get another 10-20 points on the GMAT. Yes, it wouldn't hurt, but I don't think your chances hinge on it even coming from a competitive demographic.

The larger question here is what is your overall narrative? What are your post-MBA goals and how do those relate to your pre-MBA experience and your desire/need for an MBA? Right now, I see some good qualifications but no real cohesion or "theme" that helps you stand out.

Fortunately, there are many good consultants who have posted on this page - ourselves included :) - who would be happy to help you put your picture together. Talk to them and pick the one you feel would be help you articulate your interests and achievements in a way that would optimize your chances at some of these very competitive schools.
