MGMAT SC gives you the basics u need to know from a gmat perspective.

SC Grail highlights some of the pitfalls that gmat creates and tests on the exam,

So i would suggest this

first : MGMAT
second : Grail

then practice lots of sample questions from og and the forums and read through the explanations... that should help you

Hmm this is what i did to get over my SC phobia :

1. Study Mgmat SC , make detailed notes , at end of each chapter. Dont do OG set as of now.

2. Go through Aristotle SC grail, i bought SC question bank from Aristotle for 5 $ ( this question bank might be included in new sc grail versions. So please check out ). Practice the question bank after every topic u complete in SC grail

3. US aristotle OG Solution set ( 15 $ from aristotle prep ). It has two solutions for every OG 12 SC problem. One is the normal method , Another is a 5-split method. Solve OG 12 questions , say 20 q in 40 min initially. Use an error log to mark hard questions , guessed questions. Review your solutions with OG solution set for next 40 min. Mark all problems you got wrong. Make notes of all new concepts / or concepts you got wrong. Best way to make notes is illustrate the concept with examples ! Take the problem you got wrong , and use it to illustrate new concepts ( or those you got wrong ) . Am attaching a sample Aristotle OG solution set below. It explains two types of solution with 10 sample OG 12 Sc problems.

4. Make Notes of SC concepts from all above sources completely illustrated with examples.

5. I got collection of 70 Brutal SC along with explanations all in one doc. They should be available in verbal section in this forum. Solve it under timed conditions. Review with aid of an error log and Make notes as explained above.

6. Now when you take Gmat prep test 1 and 2 . Take each test 3 times. Also when you take mgmat / any other prep 5 - 6 CAT's , Use step 3 to maintain error logs and review your solutions, make Notes !

7. There's a collection of 183 Sc questions from gmat prep set. Its available in the forum (if not let me know , i will send it to you ). review these after you are done with gmat prep test 1 and 2 , each three times.

These should help a lot to grab concepts and practice ! In case you have time and if you are too skeptic , yes go choose e-gmat. Its good and has some good 500 q for practice ! I normally recommend it to most of my students, as it is quite an affordable solution too.

Cheers,
:0

Hmm if you need extra practice :

if you did OG 12 , do these from OG 11 ( non overlapped questions from SC )

4,10,12,13,18,23,25,27,30,31,32,34,35,37,41,47,53,61,64,66,68,70,71,72,76,77,78

80,82,83,84,89,91,92,93,94,99,100,103,104,107,108,110,112,116,118,119,120,122,123,124,125,130,137

Again remember , do them timed, use error log and Review !

Hoogly has some great advice - no doubt. I did something similar in the early phase of my GMAT preparation. For some reason this strategy did not work for me - I don't think there is a flaw if the process that Hoogly illustrated above, BUT after a point I saturated and I could NOT IMPROVE. In-fact Hoogly's approach is a no brainer for some, or maybe most. BUT I have seen in this forum and in my personal experience that IF you are a NON-NATIVE spreaker, such a step by step strategy - yet brute force - approach does NOT work for some.

If you think that SC is seriously killing you and you want to TRULY to be CONFIDENT while solving a GMAT SC question, I can't illustrate the importance of following a process while solving a SC question. Accuracy is MORE than key to solving SCs. Overtime the timing can be mastered BUT if you don't know HOW to solve a question, after a point you will saturate your accuracy + timing quota and NO matter what you do it WILL NOT improve - at least that's what happened to me!

Then I started E-GMAT SC (e-gmat.com) course - a short 2-3 week course - to understand the process. Trust me there is nothing better than E-GMAT that illustrates the step by step process of solving SC questions. They talk about Meaning and Process a lot in their online videos. It will take a decent amount of time to understand BUT I think it's worth - I have been doing it for last 2 weeks, and DAMN! I am confident NOW! If you want try their some sample concept vidoes free online. Check for yourself if their process works for you. I can't guarantee it will work for all, but for NON-NATIVE speakers I think I can tell with more certainty that they will appreciate their approach a lot. In the beginning it will be a slow process but as your master it, it will become a cake walk :)

Hope this help. Try for yourself and see this is something you have been looking for :)

Nice abhi,

I was hearing rave reviews for e-gmat SC. But myself never checked it out and was a bit skeptic to suggest it myself. Thanks for the useful review. +1 Kudo for you ;)
