Hey everyone,
I recently took the GMAT on November 13 and scored 545 (V79, Q76, DI76). The result was disappointing since, during my prep, I was consistently scoring in the 650 range on official practice tests (Tests 1–4), with scores ranging from 605 to a high of 695.
After reflecting on my performance, I think test-day pressure got the best of me, affecting both my accuracy and time management. Here's a breakdown of what I believe went wrong:
I’m planning to retake the test by mid-December to strengthen my application for a Master’s in Management program. I have about 10–15 days to prepare and need to figure out how to best utilize this time to hit a 650+ score.

- Verbal: I was doing well during prep, but on test day, I struggled with RC. I couldn’t fully comprehend some passages in the given time, which led to mistakes.
- Quant: Though I initially struggled with quant during prep, I had worked hard to overcome concept gaps and avoid careless errors. However, on test day, I made silly mistakes and wasted time rechecking answers, even on relatively easy questions.
- DI: Time management was a significant issue, which hurt my accuracy and led to errors.
I’m planning to retake the test by mid-December to strengthen my application for a Master’s in Management program. I have about 10–15 days to prepare and need to figure out how to best utilize this time to hit a 650+ score.
What I believe I need:
- My concepts seem solid, so I think I need focused practice to improve confidence and accuracy under time pressure.
- I’m considering buying the additional practice question sets from the official website of gmat

Do check your accuracy as well: You should have 90% accuracy on easy, 70% on med & 55% on hard ones.

While 15 days is certainly not a lot of time, you need to do anything you can within that timeframe to find and fix knowledge gaps. A great way to do so is with topical practice. Let's use quant as an example.
For example, let’s say you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.
After each problem set, it's crucial to delve into the questions you answered incorrectly. For instance, if you stumbled on a remainder question, take a moment to reflect. Was it a careless error? Did you fail to apply the remainder formula correctly? Was there a concept in the question that eluded you? This analysis is key to your learning process.
By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GMAT quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant, verbal, and DI topics.
