I have studied for a few weeks very intensively. I have the
Manhattan Prep course. Took the GMAT today got a 530. Brutal. I am hoping for at least a 600. Ideally closer to 650+. My practice exams that ive taken so far were not timed so i went into today expecting timing to be an issue. Instead, it was not at all. I clearly just do not know what I am doing and need to improve my problem solving for quant and verbal. Not really sure how to improve verbal any tips would be helpful. And quant advice as well obviously is needed. What questions on gmat club should i start with and work my way up to for quant.
Understanding the Fundamentals:
Manhattan Prep provides a deep dive into the fundamentals of GMAT. If you've studied it intensively but still find gaps in your understanding, revisit the sections you're weak in. Take notes, work on exercises, and ensure you have clarity before moving on.
Practice: Since you mentioned that you weren’t timing your practice exams initially, it’s good that you recognized timing wasn’t the issue. Now, focus on honing your problem-solving skills. The GMAT is less about rote memorization and more about understanding how to approach problems. Since you're on GMAT Club, start with 600-level questions, especially in the areas you're struggling with, and then progress to more difficult ones as you improve. GMAT Club's
Error Log can help you track repeated mistakes.
Mocks: Even though you've taken the actual GMAT, continue taking mock tests. They're essential not just for timing but to help you get comfortable with the test format. Analyze every mock thoroughly.
For Verbal: Your issues seem to be with problem-solving rather than timing. This points to a foundational gap or a strategic error. For Sentence Correction, understand the grammar rules and the logic behind them. For Critical Reasoning, work on identifying argument structures and common trap answers. Reading Comprehension requires an active engagement with the passage, so practice summarizing passages and predicting answers.
For Quant: It seems like you need to reinforce your understanding and application. Don't just solve problems; ensure you understand the underlying concepts. Tackle problems topic-wise, focusing especially on areas you're weak in.
Consistency and Planning: With your goal of 650+, you'll need to maintain a consistent study schedule. It's essential to keep up the momentum.
Lastly, since you've already taken the GMAT once, reflect on that experience. Was there a particular section or question type that tripped you up?
