Need to Know my chances in GMAT

Question

Hi all, 
I am Indian Citizen 29 years old.
I am an Engineer by qualification. Have done my B. tech in Electronics and Communication. Then moved to private retail banking worked for one year.Then I moved to govt sector and have been working for last 6 years in Public Sector General Insurance Company as as Underwriting Professional. 
By professional qualifications, I have done Diploma in Banking and Relationship Management. 
And I am a fellow from Insurance Institute of India and Chartered memeber from Chartered Insurance Institute,London.

Please let me know what are the chances and marks I need in GMAT to get a good school.

Also please suggest me how to start preparation.

Anything above 650 is considered a good score.
And 700+ if you are aiming for some of the top universities.

Hi,
I agree with  homersimpsons  that 650 or over is a good score. A friend of mine managed admission at a university ranked top 30 to50 with full funding with a score of 630.

Hi Aspirantd,

The process of applying to (and ultimately attending) Business School will require a big investment of time, money and energy on your part, so you really should make sure that the Programs that you apply to match your career goals/needs. There are a variety of factors that go into selecting the Schools that you'll apply to. Instead of just applying to Programs that a 3rd-party might call a "good School", you would likely find it best to research Programs that match what you're ultimately looking for - and here are some other things to think about:

1) Is there a particular company that you want to work for or industry that you want to work in? Certain degrees are more appropriate than others if you have a specific career goal.
2) What do you want your MBA to do for you?
3) Do you want to go to School full-time or part-time?
4) Are you willing to relocate? Are you comfortable with working through a program that is primarily online?
5) Are you going to be applying for scholarships?
Etc.

Once you have a list of Schools that interests you, you can research them a bit more to get a better sense of what your profile might "need" for you to be considered a competitive Applicant (including a GMAT Score).

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.
