[quote="mbaMissionKate"]Hi Ujjwal, that's a great question! There are lots of factors, here are the main ones that come to mind...
-Progression: have you been promoted, increased your responsibility/impact, etc.
-Leadership: have you taken on lead roles, whether for a team or an idea/project/process
-Accomplishments: what have you done that's above and beyond, have you created new programs/processes, improved things, won awards, made a difference, etc. (they want high performers and superstars!)
-Hard skills: are you comfortable analyzing data, solving complex problems, assessing systems, etc.
-Soft skills: do you communicate well, have you worked on teams, have you shown strong networking / interpersonal skills, etc.
-International exposure: not a requirement but a nice bonus if you've worked on global teams, had overseas clients, spent time overseas for work, etc.
-Prestige: harder to measure but there's some value that comes from working for a top / well-known company in your field, or having served prestigious /well-known clients and customers
-Tenure / Commitment: you don't have to have only one company on your resume, but too many changes can look like you lack commitment
There's no set weighting or formula on how schools evaluate these things but in my experience these are the main factors that are considered.
Hope this helps!
Kate
Hi Kate ,
Thanks a ton for your valuable response . It helps a lot
How do Admission directors perceive or judge diverse experience in different industries with different Job profiles (For ex- I have worked as a Chef for a brief period , 3 years as a Software engineer and now planning to take up a non technical analytical role (assuming i have the right reasons to switch over at each instance) )
Regards ,
