Hi SlikRick,

We really need to see how you handle the FULL CAT (with the Essay and IR sections). By skipping those sections, you took a shorter, easier Test that required a lot less overall work from you, so the score result could be considerably more 'inflated' than just 10-20 points. If you're not planning to take the GMAT until December, then you have plenty of time to continue studying and improving (and you likely won't even need that much time). I suggest that you study as you see fit this week, then take a new FULL-LENGTH CAT (perhaps this weekend). Once you have that score result, you should post back here and we can discuss how best to proceed with your studies.

Solid advice. I'll redo another CAT and get back to you!

Hi SlikRick,

Great work with the 690! Have you taken any official MBA.com practice exams? Because the official practice tests were created by the GMAC, the maker of the GMAT, these practice tests probably provide the most accurate scoring algorithm and thus it would be helpful to see how your score on one of those exams.

In regard to your next steps, since you are already at a 690, there are some good reasons as to why you may consider using a more customizable self-study course rather than taking a class.

First, a self-study course provides greater flexibility than a class. Rather than adhering to a preset class schedule, you can build a study schedule customized to fit your needs. When learning about topics, you can speed up and slow down as necessary. If you understand a particular topic, you can breeze through it; however, if you do not grasp a concept, you can drill that concept as long as you need before moving to the next one.

Additionally, self-study courses typically provide detailed study plans and have granular analytics, so you can easily track your progress as you move through the course. By being able to track your progress, you will remain more engaged, and you’ll be able to more accurately forecast when you are ready to take your real GMAT.

If you do not know which GMAT study resource to use, you can check out the course reviews on GMAT Club or Beat The GMAT, both of which have thousands of verified reviews of different GMAT prep resources. Most courses also offer a free or low-cost trial, so you may consider trying a few of them before making a decision.

Lastly, to help diagnose your GMAT quant strengths and weaknesses (since quant seems to be your biggest weakness), I welcome you to take my free 37-question quant diagnostic. After completing the diagnostic, you’ll be provided with a detailed analysis of your proficiency level on GMAT quant topics as well as an opportunity to discuss your diagnostic results with me or another TTP instructor/coach.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out.
