A few things on the actual GMAT there are experimental questions ( around 10 not sure of the exact number these questions don't actually add to your score) and there are questions of varied difficulty levels. There is a larger penalty if you get an easier question incorrect.

What GMAC decides as easy or difficult is based on previous samples on that particular question. Nobody has really figured out how the algorithm works, so the best guess is to get most questions right.
