No of questions dependency on Score

Question

Hi.

I recently gave GMAT Prep.. 
I score pretty bad. 590( v26 and Q 46).

I got 16 questions wrong in Verbal and scored V26.

Does 16 incorrect questions really make that bad score??

I know the GMAT is adaptive,but still 16/41 wrong???
What i have heard earlier is that, getting 10-11 wrong makes around V36.

For a moment, i thought there might be some problem with the software..

Can someone help me over this thing???

Is there a dependency on the no. of questions or is it a myth?

Hi,
I have 5 incorrect in the first 11 and rest 11 incorrect in the remaining 30 question.

For random, 11 questions incorrect, one gets V36.

How come there is so much variation..

A few things on the actual GMAT there are experimental questions ( around 10 not sure of the exact number these questions don't actually add to your score) and there are questions of varied difficulty levels. There is a larger penalty if you get an easier question incorrect.

What GMAC decides as easy or difficult is based on previous samples on that particular question. Nobody has really figured out how the algorithm works, so the best guess is to get most questions right.
