The previous two posters have hit all the points already, so I will limit my contribution to simply repeating what bb has just advised: don't expend any energy trying to figure out whether a given question is experimental or not. I understand that you started this thread probably out of curiousity, but please don't give this issue too much thought. The best thing to do when confronted with any question on the GMAT is to answer it to the best of your ability.

I'm sure you already knew this, but I just wanted to point this out in order to drive this message home. :)

Hi guys. I've just completed my first Prem on Princeton Review. I've scored 49Q and 24 Verbal. Overall 600 Points. But it is one issue that I want to point out. I've made 10 mistakes in verbal and 5 mistakes in Quant. Total 15 mistakes. out of all experimental question I've made only 1 mistake (as I've counted there were only 21 total experimental question of wich I was correct on 20). Can I say that it is a bad luck to whole part of mistakes in questions which are assessed, or is it a common issue. Should I adjust it?

IR: 3 of the 12 questions are experimental / "pretest" questions.
Quant: 9 of the 37 questions are experimental.
Verbal: 11 of the 41 questions are experimental.

3 + 9 + 11 = 23 experimental questions = 25.6% of the GMAT!

Update: on the newer, shorter GMAT that made its debut in 2018, there are now only 3 experimental questions on Quant, 3 on IR, and 6 on Verbal, for a total of 12 experimental questions (15.6% of the exam).
