Thanks guys. Few more questions.
In the second essay."Why part time MBA?" did you focus more on why part time or why NYU?
How specific were you in your reasons?
Did you mention anything about contributing to Stern?
Did you highlight your accomplishments in your essays or was that only in the resume?
Thanks much for your help!
My second essay was pretty straightforward. My reasons for part-time over full-time were not earth shattering: (1) career-sustaining vs. career-changing and (2) financial (wage sacrifices, reimbursement, etc). My final point in the essay focused on lifestyle, which answered why weeknights over weekends (the second part of the question).
I threw in something at the end of my first essay about why NYU so I didn't feel I needed to repeat that in the second essay. I also did not highlight career milestones/accomplishments in any of the essays; I left all of that to the resume portion of the application.
Finally, I did submit the optional 4th essay. Here, I stressed my interest in the program as well as how I feel I would be able to contribute to the Stern community given the opportunity. In the end, I think it served almost as a cover letter and tied the entire application together.
What I felt is most important in the essays and is repeated on other message boards here on GMATClub is that you are genuine in your responses and not trying to tell the AdCom what you think they want to hear. I fell into that trap in early drafts but some great feedback from my reviewers quickly turned my words into real essays.
Hope this helps. Good luck to those still waiting/waitlisted. The latest count is 232 in the new student database so there is still reason for hope.
