Of positive integers m, n, and p, which is the greatest?

(1) mn > np
(2) mp > mn

IMO C

Given m, n and p are positive integers

From Statement 1
mn > np ==> m >p ( since we know the signs)
No information regarding n
hence insufficient

From statement 2
mp > mn ==> p > n ( since we know the signs)
No information regarding m
hence insufficient

Combining
m > p and p > n
Hence C

Of positive integers m, n, and p, which is the greatest?

(1) mn > np
(2) mp > mn

As we deal with POSITIVE numbers, we can multiply and divide safely without caring about flipping the signs.

1) mn > np...... divide by n ....m>p but we don 't know what n is to both m & p........Insuffeicnt

2) mp > mn......divide by m ....p>n but we don 't know what m is to both n & p........Insuffeicnt

Combined 1 & 2

m>p>n..........Sufficient

Answer: C

1) mn>np you can't say which is greatest from this expression

2)mp>mn you can't say which is greater again from this expression

But if you combine both you'll get

from 2)mp>mn and from 1)mn>np so

mp>np.

From this you can understand which is greatest. So c is the answer
