Re: Official School Ambassador Representation? [#permalink]

Hey Everyone,

so Berkeley Haas is interested in increasing its online outreach to applicants in the coming calendar year. Similar to the official Q&A hosted by a Haas Ambassador on the BW forums, I'm trying to convince them to have a presence here. I know all the "unofficial" ambassadors are doing a great job right now helping GMATClubbers with questions in the "Ask a School Ambassador" sub-forum, but what do you think of the idea of either creating another subforum, here or in the "consultants" area for any official school ambassadors who come here?

My vision is that eventually it would not only be Haas, but also ambassadors from other schools willing to reach out to GMATClub (we are a growing force!).

One way is to put in the title that there's an official representative there ("Berkeley Haas School of Business (Official Rep)") and the official rep should have some sort of obvious name, like "HaasAdmissionsAmbassador" when they reply.

Any other ideas? Also, any other GMATClubbers out at the schools who have influence with their admissions department to get some representation here? River? Rhyme? toga?

this sounds cool kry...chalk another one up for Haas innovation huh? :P

You could also bold the user name & give it a specific color (like I've been seeing change lately amongst admins -- i'm lookin at YOU praetorian  ). or whenever an admin responds, the background color of their actual post is given a contrasting shade. since anyone can type in any font color, this would be a nice subtle way to remind readers that the person carries some air of officialness. (is that a word? :P)

haha, awesome Paradosso! Good luck!

Yeah, I do like the idea of making the ambassador's posts more bold/colorful somehow. Will have to ask Praetorian whether he's willing to do that.

This may be a ways off but it'd be pretty cool to have GMAT Club hosted chats where school ambassadors can talk with prospectives and answer questions in real time. Then, taking from refurb's idea, we can post the transcript.

Does all this ambassador talk mean you are now an official HSA?! :-D

I do like the hosted chat thing, it's definitely something we can have the ambassadors set up.

As for HSA, nope. :)

I think it is a good idea, but definitely keep it separate from the 'unofficial' forums. I gather that a lot of the value of this site is for people to vent and discuss amongst themselves the kinds of things that 'official' school reps don't usually get into: acceptance rates, interview questions, things they did/didn't like etc. As soon as anyone who they think might have the slightest influence on their application is involved (even if they have nothing of the sort) the discussions/questions tend to turn into "Is School X a great business school, or the greatest??!!!!"

Just my $0.02 with the obligatory Colbert Report reference.

Re: Official School Ambassador Representation? [#permalink]
thanks for the comments everyone.

Anyone else have a strong comment either way?

So we have a few options... maybe I should put up a separate poll...

1. Have the official ambassador post in the current "Ask Ambassador" area - this makes it easier, but can cause applicants who are worried about asking sensitive questions to post.

2. Have a separate thread in the B-school application area like "Ask Official [school name] Ambassador". The problem with that is it may get lost in the shuffle if no new posts are placed there after a while.

3. Have a new section like the "Ask Accepted.com" set up. Though right now I haven't heard any other schools other than Haas having an interest (river? kwam? rhyme? aaudetat? pelihu?) getting one of their school's student ambassadors to pop up here...

Look for the poll...
