Hi
E-GMAT Expert,
I have gone through concepts of Verb Tense 2 and applied the same on questions recommended in OG Quiz.
QuestionIn a review of 2000 studies of human behavior that date back to the 1940s, two swiss
psychologists, declaring that since most of the studies had failed to control for such variables as social class and family size, none could be taken seriously.
Though i was able to arrive at option E as the correct answer, but i gave got the following query.
In the concept file it is mentioned that Past perfect tense is used for sequencing of two related events.
Example given if Concept file
Recently scientists learned about the changes in the earth that had happened during the last ice age.
In the above example it was mentioned that usage of past perfect to describe the changes in earth is incorrect, since both are independent events.
Applying the same concept to optionE of above question, usage of past perfect is not required to describe the two events
First Event - most of studies had failed to control for variables
Second Event - psychologists declared
Since both of the events are independent of each other, both can be described using Simple Past.
Please clarify.
Thanks.
