On Saturday morning, Malachi will begin a camping vacation and he will return home at the end of the first day on which it rains. If on the first three days of the vacation, the probability of rain on each day is 0.2, what is the probability that Malachi will return home at the end of the day on the following Monday?
The probability that Malachi will return home at the end of the day on the following Monday= (Probability it does not rain on Saturday)x(Probability it does not rain on Sunday)x(Probability it rains on Monday) = (1-0.2)*(1-0.2)*0.2=0.8*0.8*0.2=0.128
Hence B
The probability that Malachi will return home at the end of the day on the following Monday= (Probability it does not rain on Saturday)x(Probability it does not rain on Sunday)x(Probability it rains on Monday) = (1-0.2)*(1-0.2)*0.2=0.8*0.8*0.2=0.128

In the question, we are also using the 1 - <Probability of not selected in any school>. Here, why can't we use the same approach. Using "1 - <Probability of not getting rain on any 3 days>". I am getting a different answer.
Any inputs on this would be great !

I have a doubt in below question, it is mentioned that "Malachi will return home at the end of the day on the following Monday" so doesn't it mean he will return on Tuesday and hence ans should be 0.8*0.8*0.8*0.2 ?

It means “the next Monday that occurs.”
