What are you thoughts on [his surviving velvet suit "shows"].

Why "shows" is correct here?

D should be correct as it refers to Garrick correctly. And the usage of that is correct.
All the other options , him/his have no antecedents.

PS -- A poor version of this question was posted back in 2007 which created a lot of confusion in the post.

A , B and C are out ---"he" and "him" cannot point to possessive Garrick’s personality..
E --fact cannot be shown in his surviving velvet suit...illogical ...

D is the answer
