C provides a perfect causal relation & proper use of tense therein.
In E , that tries to modify 'long' - does not make sense. Causal relationship is generally expressed by 'so.... that' form( if we use 'that').

Due, as adjective, can mean two things: Result or Expectation.
Expectation: The semester fee is due in January.
Result: Tom's illness is due to lack of regular exercise.
In this case, the intended meaning is to show result. Hence, the correct preposition is 'to'.

d) for it to take (Please note that for it takes would be correct)
