Total = 1000
Female = 52% = 520=> Male = 480
Female Research = 40% of 520 = 208
Total Research = 600 = Female Research+Male Research => Male research = 600-208 = 392
Female = Female Research+Female No Research => Female No Research = 520-208 = 312
Total No Reseach = 400 = Female No Research+Male No Research => Male No Research = 400-312 = 88.

Out of a total of 1,000 employees at a certain corporation, 52 percent are female and 40 percent of these females work in research. If 60 percent of the total number of employees work in research, how many male employees do NOT work in research?

(A) 520
(B) 480
(C) 392
(D) 208
(E) 88

Females = 520 ; Males = 480

Research = 600 ; Non Research = 400

Females working in Research = 208 (ie, 40% of 520) ; Males working in Research = 392 (ie, 600 - 208 )

Males not working in Research = 88 ( ie, 480 - 392 )

Hence, answer will be (E)..

(D) 208
(E) 88

(from the matrix) 9% of 1000 = 90 (nearest 88)

No need to calculate actual value for each entity.

(A) 520

We see that there are 1,000 x 0.52 = 520 females and 520 x 0.4 = 208 females work in research, and 1,000 x 0.6 = 600 total employees work in research; thus, 600 - 208 = 392 males work in research.

Since there are 1,000 - 520 = 480 total males, 480 - 392 = 88 do not work in research.

1000*.52=520*.4=208 female researchers. Total research workers = 1000*.6= 600
Male research employees= 600-208=392
Total male employees = 1000*.48= 480
Male employees who do not work in research = 480-392= 88
