Well you know Q's speed should be lower than P's speed, so only 14 or 7 would work. 7 would be almost half of the speed of Q , oyu could estimate that P would beat Q by far more than 125 m in 1.000 if speeds where 16 and 7. Therefore answer is C.

FightToSurvive
P's speed = 16m/s
P's distance = 1000m (as it is a km race)
t = 1000/16 = 62.5 sec

Q's distance = 1000-125= 875m
Q's time to complete this distance is also 62.5 sec.
Q's speed = dist/time = 875/62.5 = 14 m/s

Hence C is the answer.

1000/16 = (1000-125)/x
1000/16 = 875/x
125/2 = 875/x
x = 1750/125
x=14

P beats Q by 125 meter in a kilometer race. Find Q's speed if P's speed is 16 meter/sec.

A) 21 meter/sec
B) 7 meter/sec
C) 14 meter/sec
D) 18 meter/sec
E) 28 meter/sec

When P covers 1000m, Q covers 875m in the same time. So their speeds are in the ratio 1000/875 = 8/7

8/7 = 16/Q's speed

Q'e speed = 14 meter/sec

Answer (C)
