C & E gone due to incorrect usage of adverb "usually". Adverb needs to come before the adjective / verb it is modifying.
D is incorrect since it changes the meaning completely (science having made for way history. NO! Science is making its way "through" history..).
A is incorrect due to incorrect parallelism. The non-underlined portion compares the role of science with that of "passenger on carrier's shoulders" (a noun phrase). "Having made a way" is not a noun phrase but a verb phrase and the parallel drawn is incorrect.
B is much cleaner. "making way through.." here its the gerund form and hence acts as a noun. Correct answer.
