Let the rate of team A be 1/a and rate of team B be 1/b (assumed total work as 1)
Total number of days that it took to complete the job was 40
Therefore,
N/a +(40-N)/b = 1 ---------- (we have assumed total word done to be 1)
We are given that N/a = 2/3 => 1/a = 2/3N
This gives us
2/3 + (40-N)/b = 1
=> (40-N)/b = 1/3
We are also given that 1/a + 1/b = 1/18
(40-N)(1/18-1/A) = 1/3
This will simplify to, N^2 – 46N + 480 = 0
N = 30 or 16
N/a = 2/90 or 2/48 = 1/45 or 1/24
Thus a = 45 and b = 30 (only option)
