At Westside Widgets, Annual salary = $50,000 with 2 weeks of "paid vacation" and benefits valued at $15,000 annually. Doesn't it look ambiguous for the following reason?:-
Thought process: Annual Salary= 50,000 + 15,000= 65,000. Now, as 2 weeks of "paid vacation" we further calculate and add the monetary value of these 2 weeks, i.e., 10 workdays (or 80 hours), which could further be calculated by calculating per day salary (either 50,000/ total workdays or 65,000/total workdays).

Paid vacation means amount paid even while the person was on leave. So, there is nothing extra that has to be added, and it is already added in the pay. It is only that he could take two weeks vacation and the salary will not be cut for these days.

We can do this in 2 mins as the calculator is allowed in this section.
Per day value of Westside Widgets = annual salary/ total days = 65,000/250 = $260
Per day value of Eastside Enterprises = (37.30) x (8 hours of 1 day) = 298.4 ~$300

Detailed calculation
annual salary = 50,000 + 15,000 = 65,000
total days = (52-2)weeks x 5 days of 1 week = 250
Per day value of Westside Widgets = 65,000/250 = $260

Per day value of Eastside Enterprises = (37.30) x (8 hours of 1 day) = 298.4
The closest option is $300

I do not agree

1 workweek could be from 5 day working/week to 7day working/week, so Daily Value could not be determined

Find the value of each job per day, based upon a 40-hour workweek and 52 five-day weeks per year.
Does this help? I'm not quite sure what you disagree with.

But how would we know how many hours in a day he works? Working hours per day varies with region , company , country and a lot of factors. what if they are working 10hrs in a day? It should be specified in the question that 1 workday means 8hrs only. I calculated the whole thing and just stuck in the end for this.

Westside Widgets offers an annual salary of $50,000 with 2 weeks of paid vacation and benefits valued at $15,000 can easily mean that the two weeks paid vacation is part of $15000.

40 hours week for a five day week would mean EIGHT hours per day.

Westside Widgets
As two weeks payment is for vacation, actual time one works is 50 week and gets paid $50000+$15000 or $65000
Now, per hour payment = \(\frac{65000}{50*40}\) or $32.5
So compensation per weekday = 32.5*8 = $260

Eastside Enterprises
The value can be found straightway => 37.5*8 = $300

Check the question:

Pat is considering two offers from competing firms. Westside Widgets offers an annual salary of $50,000 with 2 weeks of paid vacation and benefits valued at $15,000 annually. Eastside Enterprises offers Pat a one-year contract with no benefits but a salary of $37.50 per hour. Pat considers both offers acceptable but will take the job that provides the greatest total compensation per workday. Find the value of each job per day, based upon a 40-hour workweek and 52 five-day weeks per year.

The question already defines it: “40-hour workweek and 52 five-day weeks.” That means 5 workdays per week and 40/5 = 8 hours per day, so no assumption is needed.
