Greetings to all the experts and friends.
I recently gave the GMAT Focus Edition, without a lot of preparation, and more importantly without the knowledge of such heavy penalty that is imposed for not attempting questions within the given time.
I come from a background of Legal studies, and last I solved any Maths was back in High School, so I did not have very high hopes for Quant, however I was confident about Verbal as it has become a regular practice to read long passages, and tricky usage of language being a lawyer. I did not have very high hopes for Data Insights as well, since the questions were mostly either related to quant, or formulated in such a way that it consumes a lot of your time just to decode the given data.
Anyway, I planned on giving the exam to score somewhere over 600 to look for prospect MiM courses across France, as I am inclined towards learning, and finding an intersection between law and business through my legal acumen and the exposure of corporate world that I seek. I looked into a lot of interesting MiM programs across France (I do not have the work ex for MBA).
So my desired score was anything above 600. And I gave the exam online, and was surprisingly able to do well on quant, and verbal. I could feel that I was messing up my Data Insights section pretty badly, as I was neither able to manage time and nor get a lot of the answers correct. But I still felt that it went below average to say the worst. But I was so wrong. I was on question 18 (could not tick an answer) when the timer went off. So I was essentially able to mark an answer for 17 questions out of 20, from which I got 10 correct. But I was so shocked when at the end of the exam, the unofficial score was flashed briefly. It said

Q83 V87 DI62.
DI62?? I was pretty sure that the score ranges between 60-90, and seeing a 62 immediately made me wonder, did I get no questions right at all? Did I really mess up this bad?
However, It is coming to my notice now that the penalty for leaving questions unattended is bizarrely harsh. If anyone has some rough estimate of how many points do we drop for leaving 1 question and so on, please share.
Also, it would mean a lot to me if tips to improve my DI score are shared as well.
Thank you so much for the read.
