I am planning to apply for a PhD program at IIM Bangalore.

I recently gave my GMAT and scored 685.

Any suggestions about do's and dont's would be highly appreciated.

I don’t know much about IIM Bangalore’s PhD program, but I can suggest some general info to help with your application:

Do’s:
  1. Focus on Your Statement of Purpose (SOP):
    • Clearly articulate your research interests and how they align with faculty expertise. Highlight why you’re passionate about pursuing research and how your background prepares you for it.
    • Be specific about the domain you're interested in (e.g., Organizational Behavior, Strategy, etc.) and mention potential faculty whose work resonates with your research goals.
  2. Analyze Your Research Interests:
    • If you’re unsure about your exact research focus, start by exploring faculty profiles and their research areas. Read some of their recent publications to understand their work better.
    • Shortlist potential faculty members whose research aligns with your interests. Then, try to reach out to current PhD students working under their guidance. Ask them about ongoing projects in the lab or department—this will give you insight into possible research fields and the faculty’s approach.
Don’ts:
  1. Don’t Rely Solely on Your GMAT Score:
    • While 685 is a decent score, the admission committee will focus more on your research aptitude, SOP, and interview performance. Don’t worry too much about your score as long as you demonstrate strong research potential.
  2. Don’t Generalize Your Application:
    • Avoid vague statements in your SOP or research proposal. Tailor your application specifically to IIM Bangalore and highlight why it’s your top choice.
  3. Don’t Overlook Faculty Research Areas:
