Plans for the fall production at a small clothing manufacturer include pants in solid colors and skirts in both solids and patterns. The necessary fabric in solid colors can be purchased for $28 per yard, and the patterned fabrics cost $32 per yard. Skirts require 3 yards of fabric, and pants 5 yards. Based on demand forecasts and profit margins, the company wants to make 50% more skirts than pants and wants to make half as many solid skirts as patterned skirts. The company spends a total of $55,600 for fabrics. At that level of spending, how many patterned skirts and how many pairs of pants can the company produce?
As per the given stimulus, suppose
No of pants = 2n (Reqmt --> 5 yards per pant) ............with solid fabrics @ $28 per yard
No of skirts = 3n (Reqmt --> 3 yards per skirt)
-- Solid skirts = n .............with solid fabrics @ $28 per yard
-- Patterned skirts = 2n .............with patterned fabrics @ $32 per yard
Thus, we have
2n (5)(28) + n(3)(28) + 2n (3)(32) = 55600
556n = 55600
n = 100
Number of patterned skirts = 2n = 200
Number of pants = 2n = 200
