Please evaluate my profile

Question

Hi

I took GMAT on 15th April and want to know where I stand. Please evaluate my profile.

1. Male/Indian/25 years old/3 years of work experience
2. GMAT: 760 (Q50, V42,  IR-3 , AWA- awaited)
3. Education:
a. B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee)- CGPA- 7.6/10 (Dont know how to convert it to 4 point scale)
b. 10th Class – 81% 
c. 12th Class – 83 % 
4. Work Experience: 
- 3 years of experience as Engineer in a top Indian power sector (a public sector company).
- Commissioned a High Voltage Transmission line 
- Commissioned an extra high voltage substation 
- Currently Managing the Operation and Maintenace of the above substation 
- Consistently ranked top performer
5. Extra Curricular: 
- House captain in school
- Won several events at school level.
- Won Inter IIT music band competition ( 9 IITs participated)
- Joint Secretary of Music Section at IIT Roorkee – Organized 7 music shows and participated in all of them. Played keyboard and guitar. 
- Chairman of Electrical Engineering Students’ Society of IIT Roorkee – organized events such as mentor-mentee program, placement and intership talks, etc. for the juniors.
- Won prizes in various events during Technical and Cultural Festivals of the College (Ranked one of the best in the country)
- Organized several events during Tech and Cultutal Festivals of the college.
- Organized a free medical checkup camp as part of company CSR activity.

I am looking to apply in the following colleges in 2015: 
1. Indian School of Business
2. Kellogg (One year Program)
3. IMD
4. Insead
Not decided the 2 year programs yet.

I want to ask following questions
1. My IR score is very low. How will it impact my applications. I feel that by next year Universities will start considering IR scores. Will I have to retake GMAT?
2. I still have some time before I apply. What things can I do to improve my profile?

Hey dude,
So let me get to your questions:
1. It doesn't matter. Congratulations on your awesome GMAT!
2. Your profile is good. IIT. Good work experience. Good grades. GREAT GMAT! Some good extras on the side. everything is in order. But what may be a little bit missing (at least so far, from what I have seen) is that unique little EXTRA! That boost of that something special where when I read your application, I say "Wow! I've never seen this before." Really it can be anything. (maybe something with music? Cause you have some involvement there). But try and think what else you can add to your experience to make you jump off the page and be unique in this tough and competitive applicant pool that you are in.

Hi Jon

Thanks you so much for the reply. I was very uncomfortable with my IR scores earlier...already had 3 sleepless nights. Probably I should stop worrying about IR. Yes you are right. My profile lacks that USP. But with this profile, do I have chances of getting into biggies like Kellogg and INSEAD? I am not sure of that. I am sure I can present my story well but I have to be sure that schools i am aiming are not beyond my profile.

Well, for your school list above for IMD and INSEAD you are a bit on the young side. At IMD Average age is 31 and average work experience 7 years. And they like to keep it that way. INSEAD is more flexible, and I think with your GMAT, you should have a shot. Although I wouldn't recommend going with ONLY the four schools you have above (given your list, I guess I would add HEC, maybe Cambridge, Ross too). But otherwise, I think it looks good.
