I am a Civil Engineer with 5 yrs and 7 months of professional experience as on today. I took the GMAT on November 2013 and scored 710 ( AWA 4). I had applied for Indian School of Business that year but couldn't manage to get an interview call. This year I have decided to pursue an MBA and targeted IIMA's PGPX and ISB's PGP. I retook the GMAT this year hoping to improve my score but could get only a 650. So I cancelled the score and decided to go ahead with the applications using my first score. I contacted an admissions consultant for some advice. He told that with this score and my work ex, getting into PGPX is next to impossible and that I should either target only ISB or consider retaking the GMAT and score at least 740 if I want to apply for PGPX.
Kindly advise me if my profile is competitive for PGPX with my current GMAT score. Out of the 5 years and 7 months, almost 4 years were in a managerial position.

Hmm, the only thing about the IIMA PGPX is it's more aimed at 'executives' with 9-10 years of experience? Perhaps that is why you've met with skepticism at your chances? Your GMAT seems to be in the ballpark for that program. Of course I'm sure they get tons of great applicants with strong GMAT scores so that can make things challenging. Overall the best advice I have is to dig deep into school research, and look at profiles of last year's class and see how you stack up.... you could even reach out to admissions offices and some programs will discuss things with you broadly. Good luck on your research and decisions!
