Being URM is definitely going to help! Marketing & Finance - you've picked the two functions that reallllly care about brand. So here's the frustratingly simple answer - target the best possible programs you can. Diversify a bit to make sure you convert but go aggressive. Being URM you can tack 20 - 30 points to your GMAT to better align with medians (that isn't science, but it is based on our experience) and go from there. Schools like Kellogg should definitely be on your list as a dream / stretch program but places like Emory and Georgetown should be within reach!

Hello Teesmartgirl,
We would love to help you narrow down your choice, but it would be best to have a conversation first so we can better understand your background and post-MBA goals since this will help determine the best schools. We can have a free 30-minute conversation to discuss this and it can be with a former MBA admissions director. Feel free to sign up or reach out directly to us. Thanks!

Hi,
I'm a marketing concentration at my second year at TCU's Neeley School of Business. Our program has placed recent graduates at Alcon and Smith & Nephew in marketing functions. Both companies are located in the area. The program is also small (40-50 students per class). I was able to intern this past summer at FedEx in their digital marketing team, and a close friend landed a job at Kimberly Clark as an Assistant Brand Manager. If you are interested in learning more, please send me an email [email protected] . I would also be happy connecting you with an admissions counselor.

Best of luck in your search!
Andrew

Hi Andrew!
TCU never crossed my mind. I'll look into it. I'll let you know if I am interested in the program.

I am looking to switch from retail banking to a position in the Marketing realm post MBA. I graduated during the recession and was unable to find a marketing position so I stuck with banking. Anyway, I'm looking to work in Consulting or working at a Healthcare CPG (or any CPG company. That's always been my dream. I've come up with approximately 20 schools that I'm interested in.

Northwestern
Duke
Texas
Carnegie Mellon
North Carolina
Emory
Indiana
WUSTL
Georgetown
Notre Dame
Vanderbilt
Ohio state
Wisconsin
Maryland
Florida
Pittsburgh
Rutgers

I am looking for a small to medium sized program with good placement rates to CPG companies. Also, I don't want to attend a competitive program. I prefer well rounded classmates and not ones that are intellectual with nothing else to offer.

Hi teesmartgirl,

I recommend you take a look here in order to find out which programs are specialize in marketing: https://www.aringo.com/MBA_specializations.htm (for example - Duke, Kellogg, Emory, Indiana, UNC).

Also, to learn more about the programs you are interested in and get some 'inside info' please refer to this page: https://www.aringo.com/top_MBA_Business_ ... ograms.htm (for example, Emory and Indiana are relatively small).

I've narrowed down my list of schools a bit more
Rice
Ohio State
Indiana
Emory
Texas
North Carolina
Olin
Vanderbilt
Wisconsin
I'm kind of skeptical about going to Rice for Marketing as it's not a popular specialization there, but the give decent aid and it's a small program. thoughts?
