couldn't settle for an answer, as each option seemed too strong or not supported by the argument. And finding out the OA did shock me, as I had ruled out D straightforward. But after reading nphelan's post, D does make sense.

Even after reading the explanations, I am not able to understand the reasoning. Does anyone else has an opinion.

I came to either answer A or D. I chose A, because I believed it actually had the most relevance to the passage. B, C, and E did not seem to fit "right" in my head.

I would also like an explanation that connects a mechanical pump (being utilized as an artificial heart) to topic of hormone secretion in the heart.

the passage mentions only one function of heard i.e. to secrete hormone, therefore D looks like a winner. i actually chose E but then i realized that a drug can itself be the hormone, so it does not necessarily have to influence the heart to secrete the hormone.

however, the OA is still debatable because the source is unreliable.

I chose E as well. Hormones seem to 'heavily influence' the blood pressure, therefore by controlling the hormone, the blood pressure can be regulated. In retrospect though, the passage does NOT say that controlling the hormone is the ONLY way to regulate the blood pressure. This weakens E.

D does not convince me fully. A mechanical pump can secrete hormones? Should it rather not be pumping blood at a fixed rate?
