Since Point P lies on the equation \(y= x^2 - 1\), for point P's y co-ordinate to be minimum \(x^2\) needs to be minimum. \(x^2\) is minimum when x = 0, therefore Point P's minimum y co-ordinate = \(0^2 - 1\) = \(-1\)

Point Q lies on the equation \(y= - x^2 + 1\) => \(y= 1 - x^2\), for point Q's y co-ordinate to be maximum \(x^2\) needs to be minimum. \(x^2\) is minimum when x = 0, therefore Point Q's maximum y co-ordinate = \(1 - 0^2\) = \(1\)

Now difference between Point P's minimum y co-ordinate and Point Q's maximum y co-ordinate = (-1) - (1) = -2
