Hi Sajjad1994,

I have also given the second answer is justified, but my question what if the student is asked to prepare more than one artwork, in that case 24 hours won't be sufficient, I guess we need to write it somewhere when there will be more art.

Do we throw realism out of the window in these type of questions and assume a student will spend 20 hours straight just working on art? haha :')

Official Explanation

Statement 1: There are 20 watercolor paintings, 12 pottery pieces, and 28 pointillism pieces in the art exposition.

Looking at the bolded sentence from the third paragraph, the art school is holding an exposition to highlight their student talent. The exposition requires a third of the art work to be watercolor paintings and a fifth to be pottery pieces.

20 + 12 + 28 = 60

20/60 = 1/3 ~= Watercolor

12/60 = 1/5 = Pottery

Therefore, statement I. is justified.

Statement II. Students that will be featured in the school's exposition require at least a day's notice.

Looking at the boided sentence from the second paragraph, A pointillism piece that has dimensions of 12x18 takes on average 15 hours to create. A watercolor painting that is 17x23 takes on average 20 hours to create. A piece of pottery that has dimensions 6x2x4 takes 12 hours to create. Since the longest an art piece takes to create is 20 hours, one days notice, although not desired, is acceptable.

Therefore, statement II. is justified.

Statement III. Timothy is known for his watercolor pieces and is expected to paint 4 for the school's exposition. Timothy can create all the pieces over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Since a watercolor painting takes 20 hours and Timothy needs to create 4, that means it will take him 80 hours to complete them. Since there are only 24 hours in a day, Saturday and Sunday only.

Therefore, statement II. is not justified.

but there is no information in question 2 whether 1 person is creating just 1 painting.
so because of this lack of information shouldnt the answer be not suffecient therefore not justifiable

Students that will be featured in the school's exposition require no more than one day's notice. (It clearly says that they don't need more than 1 day)

If we look at the second tab, A watercolor painting that is 17 x 23 takes - 20 hours to create. We don't know what are the dimensions of the painting that a student chooses to draw. Nowhere it is mentioned that the student have to draw a painting which is 17*23.

So, we can't clearly say they don't need more than 1 day. They might need 48 hrs or 64 hrs based on what size they choose to draw.

Can anyone point out where I am wrong with my reasoning and what I am missing in this?

I see all the people discussing statement 2 (which is ambiguous).

But for statement 1 to be true, aren't we assuming that there is no 4th type of art? If there comes a 4th type of art, 28 pointillism could be incorrect

I have a question. Why are we ignoring the possibility here that a student can be asked to prepare multiple artworks ? On the same ground, question 3 depicts that a guy was asked to prepare 4 paintings. Therefore, he needs more than a day's notice to prepare all the artworks.
How is this justified ?
