In ∆PQR above, what is the value of y?
(1) x = 60°
(2) y + z = 180°

From the question stem we clearly know that x = 180 - z or x+z =180.
1. If x=60°, the only possibility is when 180-z is also 60°(since PR=PQ)
This is only possible when y=60°. Hence, sufficient.
2. If y+z = 180°
We also know that x+z = 180. From this we can say x=y.
Since x+y+third angle = 180
(the only possibility is when the three angles of the triangle are x=60°,y=60° and 180-z=60°(third angle))
Hence sufficient.(Option D)

(1) if x is 60 degree then 180-z will also be 60 degree (equal opposite sides) and hence y can be calculated (sum of interior angles in a triangle is 180)
(2) if y=180 degree - z then all the three angles are equal since x is already equal to 180 degree - z hence equilateral triangle hence sufficient
answer is D
