Hi Mukhtalif,

To start, I'd like to clarify your Score Goal. While you could potentially improve to a 650 in 1 month, you would likely need 2 months (or more) of consistent, guided study to get to the point that you could consistently score 700+ (and you would have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections). Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. However, if you really want that higher Score, then you're likely going to need more time than you have allotted.

Beyond that, before we discuss the data in your ESR, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) What type of study routine have you been following? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs/mocks (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
3) When is your exact retest date?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
5) What are the exact application deadlines for those Schools?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Mukhtalif,

I realize that you are hoping to craft a master plan based on your ESR; however, you need to make sure that you avoid falling into the trap of focusing on micro-details based on your ESR and thus misdiagnosing your weaknesses. Since your ESR is based on only 31 quant questions and 36 verbal questions (a very small sample size), it may not give you a complete picture of what to focus on going forward. For example, does your scoring 100% in Counting/Sets/Series mean that you are devoid of weakness in those topics? Not necessarily. Perhaps you were given many lower-level questions or had some lucky guesses on those topics. Furthermore, there is no way to know HOW MANY questions you were given from those topics, right?

A few things do seem clear. For one, your ESR seems to indicate that you are not strong in RATES/RATIO/PERCENT or GEOMETRY. So, by becoming super-strong in those areas, you would likely score a few points higher in quant. On the other hand, the ESR does not clearly indicate a weakest or super-strong area in verbal. So, it's likely that you would increase your verbal score by working on any type of verbal question.

Overall, we know that your quant score currently stands at 39 and your verbal score at 32. That being said, improving by 60+ points in just one month is a tall order. Certainly you can shoot for that improvement, but you may find that you quite simply need more time to improve your skills. Although I cannot provide an exact, one-month study plan, I can tell you that you need to follow a study plan that allows you to master the GMAT topic by topic through linear learning and focused practice. By studying in such a way, you can ensure that you methodically learn GMAT quant and verbal and fill in any knowledge gaps.

If you’d like more detailed advice on how to improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills, feel free to reach back out. Also, you may find it helpful to read the following articles: The Phases of Preparing for the GMAT and How Long Should I Study for the GMAT?.

Feel free to reach out with further questions. Good luck!

Hello all,

This is my first post at this forum and I am genuinely grateful for the help you guys are giving.

I took the GMAT last week and scored 590 after studying for around 3 months using MGMAT books (done half of OG problems, and only 1 CAT midway with 540 score)

I wish to hit a score of 650-700 within a month (to be able to submit it for R3).

Attached is my ESR

Thanks very much!

I feel you should work on your basics and practice more under timed conditions to improve on your timing!

All the best!
