Hello,
I have two previous GMAT attempts, 560 (Q40 and V27, November 10, 2018) and 600 (Q44 and V28, January 4, 2019). I applied to two programs – Jones (dinged after interview) and McCombs (waitlisted) – with the 600 score during round two. I strongly belief a better test score would have resulted in better outcomes for me. After some deep introspection, I discovered that one of the major reasons I bombed my previous attempts was because I hardly spent time on practicing and reviewing questions. I barely touched 20% of the questions in my OG 2018 and attempted only three official mocks (560-630) for the two attempts. I became a father in February 2018 and started GMAT prep in July 2018 without any solid plan. I also got more responsibilities at work around the same time so it was hard finding time to study, practice and review questions.
My baby is now 14 months old, so I am in a better position to ace GMAT for the last time. I have decided to retake GMAT and reapply to both programs during round one later this year for 2020 intake. I am planning to retake latest by early August, so I can have enough time for essays. I plan to study for at least 1.5 hours per day during the week and 4 hours per day on weekends. I also plan to take time off work (one or two days at a time) to study here and there during the next three months.
Materials I am using now:
Quant:
Target Test Prep (huge revelation so far)
GMATprepnow's verbal modules and Manhattan's SC, CR, and RC books
OG 2018 (book and online)
I have completed gmatprepnow’s SC and RC modules and started quant prep with TTP. I plan to complete gmatprepnow's CR module next week. For CR, I plan to do target practice after relearning each CR concept. For example, I will solve 30-50 official weaken questions after relearning weaken concepts. I did not follow this approach for SC and RC, especially SC, because SC questions usually test more than one error type. I plan to use the
Manhattan books as backup to relearn concepts in case I discover a knowledge gap as I practice official verbal questions.
To round this up, I need suggestions on how to approach my GMAT retake prep moving forward. I am trying to choose between 1) sticking with quant prep (relearn concepts and practice questions) in addition to solving SC and RC questions from my 2018 official guide and 2). Focus on one section (quant or verbal) first and go from there.
I have attached the ESRs from my previous attempts and a screenshot of my mock scores in case anyone is interested.
Thank you!
