Area of shaded region = area of circle - area of smaller square.
I. Side of the outer square = 2r, and diagonal = \(2\sqrt{2}r=12.............r=3\sqrt{2}\)
Thus, area of circle = \(\pi * (3\sqrt{2})^2=3.14*18= ~ 56\)
II. Diagonal of the inner square = 2r, so side of the inner square = \(r\sqrt{2}=3\sqrt{2}*\sqrt{2}=6\).
Thus, area of the square = 6*6 = 36
Area of shaded region = area of circle - area of smaller square = ~(56-36) = ~ 20.
