Hi sood1596,

I'm sorry to hear that your 2nd Official attempt did not turn out better. That Score is remarkably similar to a CAT/mock Score that you reported back in mid-July, so it's possible that you have gotten 'stuck' at this particular Score level - and you will have to make some fundamental changes to how you 'see' (and respond to) BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections before you can consistently score 700+. Thankfully, the current version of the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

1) On what dates did you take your 2 Official GMATs?
2) What type of study routine have you been following over the last 3 months? How many hours did you typically study each week?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi Guys,

I first appeared for GMAT (GMAT Online) during COVID, after studying for 3 months I scored a disappointing 460. I was shattered and took a break from studying all together.

And today, I again reappeared for my GMAT. After one month of rigorous studying and scoring 650-680 in mocks. I scored 570 (Q45 V27).
I did OG 2022 Verbal Review, Manhattan GMAT for SC and went through Gmat Ninja videos for SC. I have also subscribed to Magoosh.

Could you please suggest how can I improve my verbal score?
I believe my weakness lies in verbal especially RC, where I understand the para but I am unable to apply it to the questions asked.

First of all, you’ve had an amazing streak of improvement. Not sure if your first score was a bit too low but you’ve been able to improve by 240 points. That’s huge. That’s a huge accomplishment and you definitely know what works for you and it seems you understand your weakness is as well.

The solution is fairly simple, be paranoid and concerned with every question you get wrong. Areas you are afraid of or that keep you up at night, address them head-on. Every single problem can be addressed and fixed. Sometimes people just don’t want to fix it but to get beyond 700, you will need to face every single one of your fears and insecurities about the test (don’t worry about the fear of dancing 😉).

I know it may sound vague, generic, and maybe even stupid but I would encourage you to sit for a second and think, are you uneasy about some of the questions? Do you get a funny feeling in your stomach when the RC comes on the screen with a long passage? do you get CRs wrong on the last two choices? All these things can be fixed and improved but they have to be addressed one of the time …. You can’t fix everything at the same time 😂

For RC, becoming familiar with how INFERENCE questions work could be helpful. If you want to practice reading (but not use Official passages/questions), consider using articles from The Economist that are similar to those on the GMAT. Getting the ESR of your recent attempt may provide some insight as well.

3 RC tips

Sure GmatKnightTutor I am going to consider getting the ESR so I can improve my verbal score. Thanks!

Hi bb,

Yes, ofcourse I get super nervous when I see a RC passage and go like Oh god this again I need to try to act like I understand every word they say in my head :P

But, I do understand your point and I am definitely ready to face my challenges. One step at a time!

Working on time management may be helpful. Your average time per question during Q3 and Q4 were about a minute each, for example. Consider using question/time markers. For SC, memorizing commonly tested idioms may help boost that part a bit as well.

Hi

These are the steps that can help you improve:
1. Order for an ESR which will give ain-depth insights about your scores
2. After analysis, create your Personalised Study plan to get a structured Road map- Start with the weaker subsection first-https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/crjuX1VQ6AX
3. You need to improve on not only Verbal but also Quant since you aim to score 700+
4. Study one subsection at a time

I hope this helps
