Which one of the equations below corresponds to the following parabolas?
A. \(y = x(2-x)\)
B. \(y= 2x(2-x)\)
C. \(y= 2(x+1)^2 + 2\)
D. \(y= -(x-1)^2 + 2\)
E. \(y= 2(x-1)^2 + 2\)
I chose D but it keeps telling me it's incorrect answer and i don't why!!!

Looking at the graph, since it is a downward parabola, coefficient of x will be -ve. Using this, we can eliminate option C & E.
Now we can substitute values of y=0 which as per graph yields x=0 or 2. So this eliminated option D.
As per graph, at x=1, y=2. We can substitute this in option A & B and eliminate option A.
Ans: B
Now we can substitute values of y=0 which as per graph yields x=0 or 2. So this eliminated option D.
As per graph, at x=1, y=2. We can substitute this in option A & B and eliminate option A.
Ans: B

Ok.
But i was solving it using another technique (through a calculus course).
The technique looks at how the graph is shifted left/ right, horizontally or vertically and i already solved many problems using this technique.
Applying it to the above problem.
- The graph is downword and that means X is negative
The graph is shifted 1 point to the right, which means we have to take 1 from x to get it back to the Y axis leading to (x-1)^2
Then, the graph is shifted 2 points up, which means y is greater by 2 points, in other word we have to add 2
So combining the three points above, option D is the correct answer -(x-1)^2 +2
I concluded the equation first by looking at the graph and then i found it in option D
Can you please point out why the above technique lead to a wrong answer?
