Prendhurst Public Library recently calculated that it has loaned 40 items that
they do not expect return when due.
A. they do not expect return when
B. it does not expect return when it is
C. it does not expect will be returned when they are
D. returns are not expected to be made when
E. returns are not expected to be made when they will be
Can anyone help with broad explanation. I am especially curious why D is wrong
I am curious, what is the source of this question? Even though
has loaned might be acceptable, I would expect the more grammatically sound and traditional
has lent or a slightly modified
on loan (for
loaned only). As for the question from the spoiler,
bahruz1992, (D) is incorrect because
returns are not due, but
items. Choice (E) falls into a similar trap, although by adding an ambiguous
they, the sentence could be referring to either
items or
returns in the end.
I hope that helps clarify the matter. Good luck with your studies.
