Booth MBA Interview Analysis: How Interview Questions Have Changed Over Last 9 Years
Hello Booth MBA Aspirants
After analyzing 68 Booth MBA interview debriefs and around 533 interview questions collected over the past nine years, I used ChatGPT to identify patterns and examine how the interview questions have evolved over time. Below are the key insights and trends that emerged from the analysis.
Year 2018–2019: Foundation & Fit
The interviews were primarily focused on:
- Why MBA?
- Why Booth?
- Short-term and Long-term career goals
- Resume walkthroughs
- Leadership examples
- Failures
- Teamwork
- Cultural fit
These interviews were fairly traditional MBA interviews emphasizing motivation and fit.
Year 2020–2021: More behavioral depth
A noticeable increase in behavioral interviewing:
- disagreements
- conflict
- persuasion
- leadership style
- strengths & weaknesses
- communication
- resilience
Year 2022–2023: Reflection & self-awareness
A clear shift toward:
- asking for help
- receiving feedback
- growth
- ideal teams
- work impact
- learning
- empathy
- community contribution
The interviews became more reflective rather than purely achievement-based.
Years 2024–2026: Highly personalized conversations
The latest years show another evolution. Interviewers increasingly ask about:
- Booth resources researched
- clubs
- courses
- community contribution
- motivating others
- mentoring
- influence without authority
- multiple priorities
- collaboration
- global exposure
- hobbies
- personal growth
- unique background
The interviews are now much less scripted and far more conversational.
