Hi asbaj

Thanks for posting. Your GPA and GMAT are quite competitive, and your work with Goldman Sachs is quite noteworthy (though technology aligned, and that is always a competitive pool). IIIT Delhi is quite well known.

Please also update on your international experience/exposure.

Hello jainvihaan,

Have you taken any GMAT practice tests thus far? These can be a great way to gauge your performance and begin to develop a study plan.

Where else are you targeting along with INSEAD? While INSEAD is a great choice, it will be key that you target a wide range of EMBA programs to maximize your chances of success.

If you are looking for an Executive MBA Coach, Personal MBA Coach is here to guide you! We have placed applicants into all of the top global EMBA programs with a near-perfect success rate. We have worked with a lot of corporate bankers and know exactly how to translate your experience into strong applications.

Feel free to send a note to scott@personalmbacoach.com to learn more.

Best,

Hi Vihaan (@jainvihaan)

The term EMBA can create some confusion sometimes, so just clarifying here whether you are looking for full-time programs or part-time programs (that the term EMBA would usually apply to).

If you are looking at part-time programs then you can look at the ISB PGPMAX or the IIM Bangalore weekend MBA.

If you are looking at full-time programs instead, review what the possibilities would be at the age of 40 and with significant experience. Please go through this article.

Hi shrishreyusg,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. To begin with, your undergrad GPA is quite low, but you can make up for it with a strong GMAT score. To increase your chances, I recommend aiming for a score of 730 or higher. On the work front, you did not provide many specifics, your professional experience must enable you to showcase experiences of leadership and impact. You've also had some international work experiences, which is necessary to demonstrate a global view to AdComs. You must show your global awareness and ability to work in a multicultural setting. It will undoubtedly be counted if you narrate it correctly. Your ECs are interesting and reflect different facets of your personality; compellingly speaking about all of these will give diversity to your profile.

Your post-MBA goals should be more focused. If there are specific skills or concepts that you know you'll need but that your background lacks, emphasizing these specific gaps that will help you on your consulting journey will make for a powerful story. You may want to read an article on how to frame practical post-MBA goals essays, you will get some insights. Overall, a good profile, and Insead is a great pick when it comes to consulting. To better analyze your chances, I would like to learn more about your work experiences like roles and responsibilities, impact, innovation, and achievements, among many other things. Also, what other schools are you considering? If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to b-school. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

How to maximize your chances for top MBA programs

Cheers!

Hello, As an INSEAD Alum and interviewer, here is my evaluation of your profile.

On the surface it looks like you have an average Indian tech consulting profile. You will have to attain above average GMAT Scores (for Indian applicant pool the average is ~720, ) to strengthen your chances. In addition to your GMAT score, you will have to come up with strong stories on how you have maneuvered your career trajectory so far based on your goals. If I were to give you one takeaway for INSEAD applications that would be to showcase a very clear thought process on where you want to go in life and the steps that you have taken to reach there so far. Show that you are a go-getter, INSEAD or no INSEAD - you will enterprise, persevere and achieve your goals!
You mentioned that you did a post-graduate diploma in rural management/sustainability. Why did you do that? How does it connect with your goals in the short term as well as the long term. Do you have strong stories from your consulting stint to show that you are comfortable working with an extremely diverse group of stakeholders? Do you have narratives for situations where you showcased your leadership skills to influence decisions, people and business? If yes, then you are on the right track for your INSEAD application. Through your essays you will have to show that despite having limited international exposure due to COVID restrictions you have strongly influenced your colleagues by bringing in great outcomes for business. Perhaps even get one of your international clients to put in a recommendation for you.. (and why not??)

For your extra-curriculars the top three points can be great conversation starters, linking them to your interest in the consulting domain. Focus on the outcomes that you helped achieve as a result of you being in an advisory role.
- Advising Ashoka foundation for social entrepreneurs for 5 months
- Policy and health consultant for a division in our central government
- Founded an ed-tech initiative to assist my alma mater

I wish you all the best!
