i'm looking at applying for 2013, and my profile will look like this:

31 at matriculation
3.4 GPA from large state (English Lit)
JD from top 10 US law school
750 GMAT

W/E:

2 years complex commercial litigation in NYC

1 year and counting at McK/Bain/BCG in top European market

want to do PE/VC eventually

targeting: HBS, Stanford, Wharton, Sloan, Tuck

any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

I hate to be presumptuous, but you sound like an auto-admit at Wharton if there's even such a thing. I usually don't recommend admissions consultants, but I would recommend getting one just to extract the most amount of scholarship money you can out of the top schools.

Maybe drop Tuck and MIT for Chicago and Columbia. Take a closer look at Haas for obvious reasons.

thx for the reply -- interested in MIT for the VC ties and don't wanna go back to NYC right now. just a bit lost as not many people have my bio (plus i have gpa/ug and age working against me). also not clear on how schools treat lawyers, but hope consulting exp can counteract any negative bias

I think if u have patience try for 780. And build a good Essay.. Then u wil definitely get thru...

You don't need a 780 in your GMAT. Jesus. 750 will be good enough.

Just write good essays!

Your stats are fine, I think for you the most important thing will be to convince the admissions committees why an MBA makes sense for you. Since PE/VC is such a common career goal (with very few hires even from M7 programs), you also need to show how you have prepared yourself for that transition via networking, unpaid internships, etc. You basically have a window of 1-2 years before you are in the EMBA age group.
