Hi

It would be great if you could evaluate my profile , Thanks in advance :)

Information

1) Brief description of full-time work experience

Current: Integration and verification engineer (Ericsson Sweden) . (1 year and current)
Main duties:
- Test development and verification.
- Test case management.
- Dealing with customers to get their issues resolve.

Previous: Test Manager (2 Years) (Volvo Trucks Sweden)
- Responsible for management of project software testing activities (Lead the project testing with team of 6 people)
(Got the excellent feedback from the higher management as a team manager)

-Junior Software test engineer (1.5 Years)


2) GMAT
Preparing and hope to get the score of over 720.


3) Education:
Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden
Masters in Software Engineering & Tech
Grade :B
Year (2009-2011)

University of the Punjab, Pakistan
BS(Hons) Information Technology
CGPA - 2.62/4 (72 %)
Year of Graduation: 2004-2008

4) Significant college / post-college extra-curricular activities / leadership experience
College:
-Active member in Online Gaming- Lead the online gaming team of 5 people (Won national prizes 3 times)
-Used to be the Captain (leader) of cricket team in the school days.
-Lead the team of 10 people to collect the donation for old house.

5) Your target programs
-MIT
-Yale

6) When you plan to apply?
R1 2015-16

7) Post-MBA goal
IT product manager

Chances: Could you tell me what are my chances to get into MIT? any suggestions are more than welcome :)

Hello,

Thanks for the post. Good luck on that GMAT-- that will be important!! Feel free to come back after your score, or to do a free 30 minute consult with us at that point if interested in more feedback. ;)

Overall you've got a lot of technical and analytical skill; I think the team management experience stands out, along with being recognized for it. Your international experience is also a strength-- be sure to highlight that, and to illustrate how it affected you and how you'd bring that into a b-school classroom (i.e., what was it like to move to/live in another country? what have you learned from that experience? how has it influenced how you approach life, work, teams, perspectives etc?)

Your chances will be better at Yale than MIT. You may also want to look at schools like Tepper and Kelley. Finally I'd just say make sure you make a strong case for really NEEDING the MBA to achieve your goals, and ideally have in mind short term and long term post-MBA goals. Certainly many IT product managers do have MBAs, but in some settings an MBA is not needed for that role, so just be sure to research and know how and why you'll use the degree.

I mean chances out of 10? :)

Hi there-- Hmm, while INSEAD would value your international experience, I think it would still be quite a reach for you most likely. Chances 'out of 10' is not super applicable as b-school admissions can be subjective in many cases, rather than a straight formula or odds based on GMAT or other stats ;)... b-school admissions officers take your entire profile and application into account and also compare with other applicants where appropriate, and usually there's a bit of a 'wow-factor' in successful applications at top global schools, in the essays if not elsewhere, so it's tough to say but at present time I'd look slightly outside those top 10-15 rankings in US or globally, just a thought.
