Profile Evaluation.

Question

Hi All,

I recently appeared for GMAT and scored 710 (Q49 V38).

My profile -
*B Tech in Electronics and Communication from Punjab Technical University with 74% marks ( not sure about the GPA).
*10th : 88.4%
*12th : 78%
*Current working with the country's largest software company as a Technology Analyst.
*A few awards from previous employer for best team player and excellent contribution.
*Volunteered with an NGO called BCF, which aims to provide better living standard to the women in rural india and took various initiatives ranging from providing basic sanitation to the people in villages to arranging switching classes for them so as to make them self sufficient.
* Volunteered with an NGO called "routes to roots" whose main aim has been to improve cultural ties between nations and promote peace and harmany specially among the high tension India-Pakistan border. 
*Have won various basket ball tournaments at college and university level.

Can you suggest some B-Schools I can apply to? I am open to a complete career change after my MBA and looking for schools in America or Canada.
Also, Do u think that I should take GMAT again?
Would that help? ( though I am not in a mood to do so, but will do if there is no other option).

Any chance of getting call from any good institute in India for executive program with about 6 years of materials research background (including reputed international journal publications)?

Hey Guarav, So first of all regarding the potential of retaking the GMAT, I'd suggest you have a look here: https://bit.ly/B613Mgc. That should frame things for you. But I can totally understand not wanting to take it again. For the rest of your profile, now the info you provided me is pretty basic, but I'd say that you can apply to schools in the 15-35 range about. (Its approximate) in the US. Canada should be easier, as even at the best schools test scores are not thaaaat high, so you could apply to most schools in Canada. Whatever the case, the most important thing you need to do is come ALIVE through your essays. You don't want to fall into the trap of becoming "another Indian Tech dude".... And so being unique really carries a prime. Best, JF

Thank for the help.
I agree standing out on the essays is the most critical part of the application. 
I'll make sure I put substantial efforts on that front.
 Just curious :  Since there are so many web sites each with their own surveys about the best B-schools, I wanted to ask which one do u think is reliable.

Guarav,
Good question! Actually for US schools the only ranking that matters really is the US News and World report. So when I write about rankings I am referring to those. Now when you go through the schools, the rankings aren't exactly "absolute" I mean school number 22 can be as good as 15 more or less. But it should give you an idea, and then you will need to do your own research and think about where you want to live, what you want to do, if there is your industry near the school, about the weather, the teaching style... etc. etc.
