i am new to GMATCLUB....would be glad if you can evaluate my profile.
Background.
25 years old; Indian; Male
Education:
10th-89.8%
12th-88.2%
B.TECH - 82%(GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE)
WE
- 3.5 years total exp. in a public sector organisation as engineer.
- Have got letter of excellence from Chief general manager for my work during cyclone.
GMAT: havent given yet, want to start preparation based on profile evaluation.
Extracurricular:
- Training and placement coordinator as well as branch representative in my college
- Active participant in various activities in college.
- Actively participated in cultural events
- Actively participant in College
Please let me know my chance for Top 10 B schools based on profile

Top 10 schools will be quite tough. If you can land a GMAT score in the 760 range, top 10 schools would still be in the reach category, but you'd have a shot at them. With a 740+ & some very strong essays, resume & LORs you'd have a shot at top 20. You are coming from a very tough demographic as an Indian male with an engineering background & your GPA is below average as well. A lot will also depend on the specifics of your work experience. The adcom is looking for applicants who have used business skills to drive measurable impact in their careers (e.g. driving increases in revenue or decreases in cost, launching new profitable products, etc) and have demonstrated leadership experience & that can be tough when you're in an engineering role. It sounds like you've had some extracurriculars, but college is a bit far back & ideally they want to see leadership & results vs. just participation. Post-MBA goals are critical as well. Product manager in a tech firm is the #1 goal for those in your demographic -- so it's good that you are not naming that one. Consulting is #2 so that one will be a bit tougher in terms of differentiating yourself. Finance can work well since it's more unique than consulting for your demographic, but you'll need to show that you've had enough exposure to it/done your homework to be able to craft some strong, specific goals. The adcom wants to know the specific title you want in the ST & LT, 2-3 target firms, the opportunities & challenges you plan to tackle in those roles (based on trends likely to impact the industry in the next 10-15 years), your vision for the impact you plan to make, and WHY this is your passion.
It's always critical to paint a picture of what you can uniquely contribute to a school but when you are coming from such a tough demographic it's even more important.
