Hi,
I would like to seek your opinion on my profile as I am targeting for Fall 2022 intakes. Fall 2021 would be ideal, but I fear I don't have much time given that I have to reappear for GMAT.
Overview:
Age: 26
Internship experience: 1 year and 1 month
Full-time experience: 2 years and 3 months (currently working as a Sales Strategist at an analytics firm in Bangalore)
If I were to summarise my work experience, I have had the opportunity to work in different sectors & fields; from banking and insurance to fintech and analytics. I aspire to either work in consulting and take up strategic roles or work in banking, PE or VC.
Education: I completed my schooling in Indonesia, undergrad in Australia, and postgrad in both Spain and UK.
MSc in Finance (ESADE) - 8/10
Custom finance programme (LSE) - 8.8/10
BCom, Double major in economics - 5.8/7
Grade 12: 92.3%
Grade 10: 86.6%
Extra-curricular activities: I have partaken in a variety of sports during my schooling, but nothing beyond that. I have also volunteered and clocked in several hours of community service. As of late, I haven't had the chance to do anything material.
GMAT: Joining a postgraduate programme was a decision made in the eleventh hour. I was running short of time and had about 1.5 months to prepare for it. During this tenure, my preparation got hampered because of contracting chicken pox. Nevertheless, my score was 660 (Q 49, V 31). Currently, I am preparing for GMAT and I hope to appear for it by Jan 2021.
Target schools: Although I would be interested in schools across different geographies, I would prefer studying in the US.
US: Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Columbia, Yale, NYU, Chicago Booth, Wharton, UoC Berkeley
UK: LBS, Oxford, Cambridge
Canada: Rotman
France: INSEAD
It would be appreciated if you could suggest any other american schools that I've missed out on. I would be happy to furnish you with additional details in order to evaluate my profile.
Thank you for your time.
With regards,
Abinesh Kanagaraj
Hello
abineshk,
My two cents on your profile
1. Academic Potential - You already have a diverse experience across geographies which is great. Your GPAs are competitive too
Challenge 1 - 660 on the GMAT is slightly on the lower side for the schools you are aiming for
2. Experience - Considering that if you are applying for 2022 intake , you will be over 4 years in experience by the time you join the course is a good time to apply for you.
You can also focus on gaining some more experience in the firm you are working with. This is be a great value add with the cross industry/sector experience you already have.
3. Post MBA career goal - Like Cindy mentioned it will be extremely important for you to justify why you need an MBA at the time you apply, especially after taking multiple
courses from LSE/ESADE etc.
What I would suggest is to improve your score and work on strengthening the reason to get into consulting. To get into a consulting role it would be great if you could showcase some good work projects that showcase your problem solving and analytical skills.
Not sure if you can do much on extracurriculars - School time work doesn't really count now as it's too dated to talk about right now.
Hope this helps,
regards,
Shree
