Would love to have your thoughts on my profile.
Age: 26
Demographic: India Male
GMAT: 760 (Q50, V44, IR 8, AWA 4)
Education: BA,LLB (Hons.) at one of India's top law 5 schools (cleared an entrance exam with a sub 300 all India rank (out of ~30,000 test takers)).
UG GPA: 62% (somewhere in the middle of my batch, batch topper had ~80%)
Work Experience: 35 months as an Associate at one of India's top law firms (48m by June 2021). Good mix of transactional work and general corporate advisory. Advised bulge bracket PE investors on transactions worth more than $1bn (some of them were not plain vanilla equity deals and were very unique). Worked with clients from Indonesia, Singapore, Finland, UAE. Collaborated with top tier law firms from Hong Kong, Singapore, UK and US on mandates. Have lead diligence teams of 3 associates (including myself) on transactions.
Extra curriculars: was involved in multiple clubs in college. Helped organise the first alumni meet on campus. Represented the law school at multiple law related competitions (moot courts/negotiation competitions) in Glasgow, Hong Kong, Vienna, Paris. Secured a book publishing deal for the flagship event of one club. Taught mathematics to underprivileged kids at a village near campus. Have been on multiple treks and hope to complete a 20,000ft summit climb before applying in this cycle.
Post MBA goal:
Medium term - Want to transition from having an advisory role on transactions to having more skin in the game as an investor.
Short term - To achieve the medium term goal, best route is to get into IB first and then switch.
Schools: The 5 schools my score report has gone to are Stanford, Wharton, Booth, Columbia and LBS. I am open to applying to other T10 schools.

Hi nj95, thanks for writing in. You have some excellent attributes - I love the solid GMAT with excellent quant and IR (great quant for a lawyer!), and your goals make total sense to me. I have some questions about the details in your profile - your undergrad school may influence the outcomes (IITs tend to do better at placement) and your performance in "middle of the pack" might be a warning sign (?) - usually the very top programs will look for top performance in undergrad as well...but it sounds like you placed well after undergrad, so perhaps you were at a top program - more info would be helpful. The details do matter in this process! Other things I wonder about are promotions in your current role (might be harder in law, but perhaps you can show growth in what you're working on) and both current community involvement and the level of involvement in your undergrad activities. Ultimately, you'll want to showcase your leadership and impact both in your job and in your outside-the-job contributions.
As I'm sure you're aware, you're in a super-competitive category (Indian male applicants) if not hyper-competitive (Indian male engineering applicants), and you are smart to explore the full top 10 category...but my advice is: don't include schools as a "backup" option or afterthought, but really explore the offerings of each program because there is a lot of difference in the "top 10" and demonstrate your fit and enthusiasm with sincerity. They can have very different approaches - everything from fixed case method in the first year and big class of HBS, to the almost-all-electives flexibility of a Booth, to the smaller, more mission-driven approach of Yale....there's really a lot of variation! Whatever you decide to target, make sure to focus on delivering your best and demonstrating your passion, momentum and fit. Heavy research on how firms are interacting with the market and its ever-changing nature: accordingly what opportunities or threats does that change pose on Panasonic. Analysing the various Marketing strategies employed by the competitors in the ROC category. Preparing technical documents such as tables and graphs.Writing a final report.
2. Have procured an internship at Daikin, as a potential financial analyst
3. Student COVID Volunteer Intern: Collaborated with Migrant Travel Support Network to send 1200 migrants from Mumbai to Jharkhand via Train. Working with the government.
4. Student Ambassador: Mentoring incoming students, along with conducting events to get the settled into the college.
5. Internship at a research centre: Centre of environmental sustainability and development: Ongoing initiatives on Urban Air quality assessment in India During COVID-19 Pandemic.
