Hello everyone,
May I ask the members to please evaluate my profile?
1) Basic demographic info: I'm a 31 year old man. I'm an American citizen of Indian origin; I moved to the US from India during my high school years & became a citizen during my undergrad years.
2) Educational Background: I completed my bachelors & masters in mechanical engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology; I finished my bachelors with a 3.01 GPA, taking 5 years to complete due to switching majors. Albeit I was able to graduate with a GPA of at least 3.0, I struggled during certain semesters due to anxiety, resulting in my having to repeat a few classes, but I persisted & eventually graduated. A few years later, I began my masters whilst working full time as a mechanical engineer & graduated in under 2 years with a 3.75 GPA. As evident, I performed significantly better in my masters & simultaneously did well at my job.
3) Work experience: I have around 8 years of experience in the mechanical engineering field, 7 years of which is in the tech industry. During my last semester in bachelors, I got an internship at an HVAC firm; that internship transitioned to a full time job after graduation. I was at the company for roughly a year, when I made the switch to the tech industry, by joining a data center server-rack company. The company's clients include many of the world's leading tech companies (Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, etc). Over the years, I was promoted to senior mechanical engineer & staff mechanical engineer. I've worked closely with multiple directors at the company, & I am well liked by all of them for my thorough reports, attention to detail & great communication skills, amongst other things. I've received an award at work for my dedication, & I also have a design patent (the company owns the patent, I'm listed as the inventor).
4) Extracurriculars: I have a few extra curricular activities, but I'm not involved in any clubs in any level, leadership or otherwise. Some of my hobbies include playing sports, reading about what's going on in the tech industry, & taking flying lessons.
5) Short/Long term goals: I'd like to continue building my career in the tech industry. Eventually, I would like to become a program/project manager. I've really enjoyed the collaborative nature of my work, & have managed multiple projects of various scales & complexities during my time at the server-rack company. I would also like to start an admissions counselling business with my wife, who has an academic background, to help underprivileged kids get admitted into colleges. If possible, I'd prefer to relocate to Western Europe, preferably the UK.
6) Schools: I would like to pursue an online MBA, because I've already had to take a career break because of familial medical issues, & do not wish to pause my career once again. I made multiple attempts at the GMAT; my highest score is a 640 (Q 44, V 34), IR 4, & AWA 5. I consistently scored between 680 & 760 in the official mock-ups, but couldn't replicate those performances on the actual exams. I do not wish to take the GMAT again, as I've spent a considerable amount of time on it, & frankly, I'm sick of the sight of it; if required, I'd much rather take the GRE. I would like to apply to the following schools: Warwick, Imperial, IE, Kelley, Manchester, & City University of London (Bayes).
What are my chances of getting into these schools? Should I consider any others? I'd extremely appreciate your feedback.
While many of my clients have had admissions to FT admissions into most of these (some are too low in the ranks to take counselling help for), the good news is that your profile is generally better than most of them, and the Online program for each of these schools is far less competitive. I would even suggest you should look at schools higher in the pecking order.
Your age, may have been a weakness for FT programs.
For online programs however, with your accomplishments represented well and making a compelling story the story can be turned into a strength.
