Dear
Valito,
I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been guiding applicants successfully crack their dream MBA programs over the last 6 years. Below is my evaluation of your candidature.
Academic Background:
• X/XII/B.Tech Percentages: Strong academic performance, especially in X and XII, which will be viewed favorably.
• GMAT Score: At 680, it's slightly below the average for these institutions, but still within a competitive range.
Work Experience:
• Diverse Roles: Starting as a Quality Assurance executive and moving to a role in Indian Railways and then a Public sector company in an Operations and Maintenance shows career progression and diversity.
• Current Role: Working as Deputy Executive Engineer demonstrates significant responsibility and technical expertise.
• Project and Certification: The Lean Six Sigma project and PMA certification add value, showing an ability to implement process improvements and project management skills.
• Rationale behind career move: Its not coming clearly why you moved from Private to Public sector and now again want to move to Private sector post MBA (assuming that’s what you want to do).
Extracurricular Activities:
• Cricket: Long-term involvement in cricket, including playing in tournaments, shows teamwork and dedication.
• Dance and Anchoring: These activities demonstrate creativity and communication skills.
Awards and Recognition:
• Cash Prize from CM: Reflects exceptional academic achievement in state board exams.
• Central Sector Scholarship: Indicates high academic performance in qualifying for a government-aided institution.
Evaluation and Suggestions:
Strengths:
1. Diverse Professional Experience: The shift from private to public sector and roles in different domains is a strong point.
2. Consistent Extracurricular Involvement: Long-term commitment to cricket and other activities indicates well-rounded personality.
3. Academic Achievements: Strong academic records and awards demonstrate intellectual capabilities.
Areas of Concern:
1. GMAT Score: It's a bit lower for the target schools, especially considering the competitive pool. A higher score could strengthen the application.
2. Common Profile: As an Indian male engineer, you are part of a highly competitive applicant pool. Unique aspects of his profile need to be highlighted.
Recommendations for Application:
1. Highlight Unique Work Experiences: Emphasize achievements and learnings from the diverse roles, especially in the public sector.
2. Articulate Career Goals: Clearly define post-MBA goals and how the MBA from these institutes will help achieve them. The career transition (past and future expected) needs to logically sound correct.
3. Leverage Extracurriculars: Use cricket and dance to showcase leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Chances for Admission:
• The profile is strong, particularly in terms of academic and professional achievements.
• However, given the competitive nature of these programs, especially for Indian male engineers, it's crucial to have a compelling narrative in the application, highlighting unique experiences and future aspirations.
• A slightly higher GMAT score could significantly improve the chances.
Overall, you have a decent profile, but must focus on differentiating yourself through your essays and eventually in the interviews, and possibly consider retaking the GMAT for a higher score. Do note that chances in ISB are the highest- followed by IIIM B and then IIM C and least in IIM A.
